Rajon Rondo isn’t going anywhere, it appears.
The latest in a long line of Rondo rumors surfaced last week when ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan said on “Around The Horn” that the point guard has asked the Boston Celtics to trade him.
Rondo’s agent has since denied the report, and now, a high-ranking Celtics executive has, too.
“It was news to me,” Celtics president Rich Gotham told CSNNE.com’s A. Sherrod Blakely on Friday. “(A trade request) has not been communicated to us by Rajon.”
Gotham went on to say that all talk between the team and Rondo has been about preparing for the upcoming season, which begins Oct. 29 against the Brooklyn Nets.
“It’s more of an issue for the media than it is for us,” Gotham said. “We have a good sense of reality in relation to Rajon and all of our players. We don’t get caught up in the rumor mill or any of that stuff. What we focus on with Rajon is getting him ready to play. What we want to see is the Rajon Rondo from 2011, 2012, back in his best form. That’s what gets us excited. When we talk to Rondo, that’s what we talk about. We’re not talking about trades.”
Gotham, Celtics forward Jared Sullinger, assistant coach Walter McCarty and a number of team employees volunteered Friday at Hennigan Elementary School in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood as part of a community outreach event organized by the Celtics, City Year and the Harvard Pilgram Health Care Foundation.
