The Boston Celtics have a new man leading their minor-league affiliate.
Scott Morrison, whose hiring by the Maine Red Claws was reported as far back as mid-August, officially was named head coach of the Celtics’ NBA Development League affiliate in a news release Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Morrison had coached Lakehead (Ontario) University since 2003, in addition to serving as an assistant on the Canada Junior National team, which won a silver medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Tournament this summer. The Prince Edward Island native was named Ontario University Athletics conference coach of the year at Lakehead in 2010.
Morrison also was an assistant and scout with the Red Claws during the 2013-14 season.
“I am truly honored to to have this opportunity,” Morrison said in a statement. “I want to thank both the Boston Celtics and the Maine Red Claws, two top-notch organizations, for believing that I am the right coach for this job. I was fortunate enough last year to spend the season with the Red Claws, and I am excited to be coming back to this great community with the best fans in the NBA D-League.”
Morrison replaces Mike Taylor, whom the team announced in July would not return for a third season.
