Wyc GrousbeckPeople are interested in buying the Boston Celtics, according to team owner Wyc Grousbeck. But Grousbeck isn’t selling.

“I was just on the phone with somebody who wanted to try to buy the Celtics five minutes ago,” the owner told reporters Tuesday (via Boston.com) before the Shamrock Foundation golf tournament at Dedham Country and Polo Club. “But it was a quick conversation because the team’s not for sale.”

Grousbeck is the CEO of the private investment group Boston Basketball Partners, which purchased the Celtics for $360 million in 2002. That value has since climbed to $875 million, according to Forbes, making Boston the fifth-most valuable franchise in the NBA.

The most recent NBA team to change ownership was the Los Angeles Clippers, who were sold for a whopping $2 billion to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in the wake of the Donald Sterling scandal.
