Say what you want about John Terry, but he takes care of his own.

Terry sent a signed Chelsea jersey to grieving fan Louise Heaton after hearing of her mother’s recent death, according to the Independent.

Terry originally reached out to Heaton on Twitter to wish her a happy 21st birthday. Heaton thanked Terry, Chelsea’s longtime captain, and informed him that her mother had passed away.

“I sent him a message just to thank him, as he had previously wished me a happy birthday, letting him know how much it meant considering the circumstances,” Heaton told the Independent. “And that’s when he sent me the message and offered me a signed shirt.”

Terry’s heartfelt message to Heaton appears below, and she received the autographed jersey Monday.

“Good morning, I’m so very sorry to hear the terrible news of your mum passing,” Terry wrote. “I would love to send you one of my match shirts and sign it to you. To know I and Chelsea can help you through this very difficult time would be an honour for me.

“You need to continue your mum’s legacy and be strong but never be afraid to cry and think of those fantastic memories. Over time it will get easier. Lots of love JT. I really hope you accept my shirt. X”
