The Cumberland, R.I., Little League team captured Americans’ hearts when their coach, Dave Belisle delivered a touching speech to the players after a crushing 8-7 defeat that knocked them out of the Little League World Series.
The Boston Red Sox honored the Cumberland Americans at Fenway Park before Friday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and Belisle sat down with NESN’s Tom Caron and Tim Wakefield to talk about the speech.
“It came from the heart,” Belisle said. “It was easy. The speech was easy because they had given me all the material I needed all throughout the whole summer. It was pretty intense, it was a lot of fun and it was special. That’s why that speech became popular.”
