The Washington Redskins owner released a statement early Saturday morning voicing his support for the NFL commissioner, who has taken a lot of heat this week over questions arising about his knowledge of the Ray Rice video and his mishandling of the running back’s suspension.

“Roger Goodell has always had the best interests of football at heart, both on and off the field,” Snyder said in the statement. “We are fortunate to have him as our Commissioner. The entire Washington Redskins organization strongly endorses his efforts to eradicate domestic abuse and the independent investigation into the Ray Rice assault.”

The statement from Snyder isn’t a huge surprise given that the commissioner has shown support for the Redskins owner when he’s come under fire for his decision to keep his team’s nickname intact despite opposition from Native American groups nationwide.

It’s also interesting that Snyder waited until a Saturday morning to release the statement.

Perhaps he wanted it to fly under the radar since he knows that he, along with Goodell, isn’t the most popular figure in sports these days.
