Devin Hester was ridiculous Thursday night, and he set an NFL record in the process.
Hester had an incredible game as the Atlanta Falcons walked all over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers en route to a 56-14 blowout in the NFC South matchup.
Hester not only scored a 20-yard rushing touchdown in the first half, but he also followed that up shortly thereafter with a record-setting punt return.
The former Chicago Bear pushed the lead to 35-0 when he danced around defenders on the way to a 62-yard punt return touchdown midway through the second quarter.
As you can see, Hester high stepped it into the end zone for the last few yards of the score, which was no coincidence. The returner was paying homage to Deion Sanders, as that was Hester’s 20th career return touchdown, breaking Sanders’ old record. Making the moment even better for Hester was that Sanders was his role model growing up, and Sanders was in the building on Thursday night doing TV work.
“It’s tough to break the record of the guy who is my No. 1 mentor,” Hester told reporters. “I’m kind of emotional right now.”
