The Boston Red Sox might shut down Dustin Pedroia for the season with a hand/wrist injury, but that’s not necessarily what the second baseman wants.
Pedroia spoke after Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, saying that sitting for the remainder of the season or even getting minor surgery were both options at this point. But when asked if packing it in would be the “smartest thing to do,” Pedroia scoffed at the idea.
“I’d never pack it in,” Pedroia said. “It means a lot to play baseball in the major leagues, especially with the Boston Red Sox. There shouldn’t be one guy in here that thinks they’re going to pack it in. We’re here for each other and trying to play. It doesn’t matter where we are in the standings.”
