Romelu Lukaku will be hard-pressed to score a better goal than the one he scored for Everton against West Brom on Saturday. Yet, Lukaku didn’t celebrate.
The Premier League game between the teams was only two minutes old when Lukaku collected Jonas Olsson’s misplayed clearance and curled a delightful shot around West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.
However, Lukaku declined to celebrate. The Belgian striker spent the 2012-13 season with West Brom, scoring 17 goals during that successful loan spell. Lukaku merely followed one of soccer’s cardinal rules: don’t celebrate goals against your former team.
The goal, Lukaku’s first of the season, rewarded Everton’s bright start, and the Toffees cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win. It was Everton’s first win of the 2014-15 season.
