Fantasy Football: Knile Davis Highlights Week 3 Waiver Wire Lifelines

Knile DavisThings got ugly on the fantasy football front in Week 2.

It seems like nearly everyone’s fantasy team was affected, as a slew of big-name players either were inactive or injured in their games’ early stages (for a roundup of the most significant injured players and their latest updates, click here).

So where should you turn to fill your battered lineup? You might have a few options on your bench, but your best bet, as always, is the waiver wire.

Week 2’s injuries should yield a host of golden opportunities for backups to rack up the points in Week 3. The good news is that most are relatively unheralded, so they should be available, but make sure you act quick, because they’ll go fast.

Let’s look at who can help you patch those holes and keep your team afloat.

Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
If RGIII was your guy, you’re in the market for an emergency starter. You could do a lot worse than Tannehill, who plays a decimated Kansas City Chiefs defense that already has lost Derrick Johnson and Eric Berry. Tannehill’s numbers haven’t been impressive to date, but he showed in 2013 that he’s capable of the occasional big game, and the Chiefs are ripe for the picking.

Other quarterbacks to watch: Kirk Cousins, Josh McCown, Alex Smith, Joe Flacco, EJ Manuel

Running Back: Knile Davis, Kansas City Chiefs
Jamaal Charles has missed significant time in three games over the past two years. In those three games, Davis averaged more than 22 carries and 97 total yards per game while scoring five total touchdowns. Davis should be the clear No. 1 after his big performance in Week 2, and Miami’s run defense isn’t much to write home about. If Davis isn’t already taken, grab him now.

Other running backs to watch: Ahmad Bradshaw, Donald Brown, Bobby Rainey, Jonathan Stewart, Matt Asiata

Wide Receiver: James Jones, Oakland Raiders
We know, this is the same James Jones who hilariously fumbled twice on the same play last weekend. But he’s really the only legitimate weapon for the Raiders. Derek Carr seems to trust him, too, tossing him a touchdown pass in each of the team’s first two games. The Patriots’ secondary was on point last week, but Oakland likely will be behind early, which should result in a ton of targets for Jones.

Other wide receivers to watch: Mohamed Sanu, Brian Quick, Andrew Hawkins, Rueben Randle, Brian Hartline

Tight End: Niles Paul, Washington Redskins
Paul has been a beast in the absence of Jordan Reed, hauling in 12 catches for 185 yards and one touchdown over his first two games. Reed should miss at least another week or two, and Paul has proven to Kirk Cousins that he’s capable of being a reliable target. As long as Reed is out and you don’t have an elite tight end, this guy should be in your lineup.

Other tight ends to watch: Delanie Walker, Travis Kelce, Larry Donnell, Antonio Gates, Coby Fleener
