With their basketball team still enjoying the offseason, the Florida International University athletic department decided there’d be little harm in renting out its basketball court to a high-performance strength and conditioning competition over the weekend.

Boy, were they wrong.

The RAID Games VI were held at U.S. Century Bank Arena on Saturday and Sunday, and while the event went off without a hitch, it quite literally left its mark on the recently renovated court.

This seems like a very bad idea, as picking up heavy things and dropping them can’t be good for any hardwood floor. That’s especially true when your school recently spent $50,000 to make your floor look like this:

The event, which was sponsored by a CrossFit affiliate in Cooper City, Fla., also reportedly left “significant dents” in the floor, and the athletic department released the following statement on Monday, via the Miami Herald:

“As a result of an outside event held at FIU Arena this past weekend, the court was damaged. The event was fully insured. We anticipate repairs being complete over the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the September 17th volleyball match between FIU and Florida Atlantic will be affected and will be played at the FIU Rec Center.”
