Ray Rice doesn’t have many supporters after video of him punching his now-wife surfaced on Monday. He does, however, have one prominent name backing him, but that might not be the best thing.
Boxer Floyd Mayweather has put himself in Rice’s corner, and is even going as far as to say what Rice did wasn’t that bad. He’s also not a fan of the NFL suspending Rice.
“I think there’s a lot worse things that go on in other people’s households, also,” Mayweather said, according to The Associated Press. “It’s just not caught on video, if that’s safe to say.”
Probably not that safe to say, Floyd, but whatever.
Mayweather might not be the guy Rice wants defending him. Mayweather has been accused of domestic abuse and spent two months in jail in 2012. Mayweather pleaded guilty to a battery charge and two counts of harassment stemming from an incident in September 2010. Mayweather allegedly punched the mother of his children. He also allegedly threatened to kill her.
And just last week, Mayweather was named in a civil suit by a former fiancée who said Mayweather hit her, too.
All along, though, Mayweather has insisted he’s innocent.
“Like I’ve said in the past, no bumps, no bruises, no nothing,” Mayweather said via the AP. “With O.J. (Simpson) and Nicole (Brown), you seen pictures. With Chris Brown and Rihanna, you seen pictures. With (Chad) Ochocinco and Evelyn (Lozada), you seen pictures. You guys have yet to see any pictures of a battered woman, a woman who says she was kicked and beaten (by Mayweather). So I just live my life and try to stay positive, and try to become a better person each and every day.”
