If there’s one thing we know, it’s this — NFL fans can never get enough football.
The league has recognized this fact, steadily increasing its presence on TV to the point where fans can now watch NFL football three nights a week.
Yet the future of technology lies not with the stationary television but with mobile devices, where a wealth of information and live updates can be taken anywhere and consumed any time.
Fox Sports’ new mobile app, Fox Sports Go, will capitalize on that trend this season by providing live streams of 97 regular-season games this season, including four NFC playoff games.
There are, of course, a few disclaimers. Viewers will only be able to stream games available in their local market on FOX and must authenticate their service by signing in with their cable provider. The live stream service also will not be available on mobile phones due to NFL restrictions.
Still, Fox Sports Go’s endeavor represents yet another step forward in the shift towards portable event viewing. DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket package started offering live streams of all out-of-market games a few years ago, and the last three Super Bowls have all been offered as live streams.
So if you’re not near a TV on Sunday, fear not. The NFL will always be at your fingertips.
