Once again, the Telethon was a smashing success.

The Boston Red Sox, the Jimmy Fund, NESN and WEEI announced Tuesday that the 36-hour event that took place from Aug. 19-20 raised more than $3.3 million for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber.

On hand for an honorary check presentation before Monday night’s Boston Red Sox game were Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, Entercom vice president/marketing manager Phil Zachary, WEEI brand manager Kevin Graham, WEEI executive producer Joe Zarbano, NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail, assistant vice president and director of charitable giving at Arbella Insurance Group Bev Tangvik and Jimmy Fund director Suzanne Fountain.

“The outpouring of support throughout the country during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon has once again been incredible,” McGrail said. “The captivating stories shared by Dana-Farber’s patients and staff remind us all about the difference the Jimmy Fund makes in the lives of our friends and neighbors who are battling cancer.

“It’s a privilege to support the great people at Dana-Farber as they continue to make great progress in the fight against cancer.”

The two-day event featured appearances from several players and celebrities as well as a number of current and former Dana-Farber patients, who shared their experiences battling cancer and the support they received from the institute’s doctors and nurses.

“I was honored to have the opportunity to meet so many Dana-Farber patients and their families at the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon,” Red Sox catcher and 2014 Jimmy Fund co-captain David Ross added. “Hearing their stories of hope and survival were inspirational to our entire team.”
