Orioles Yankees BaseballDerek Jeter probably will play this weekend in Boston, the final series of his career. Heck, he might even manage the ballclub.

The New York Yankees shortstop said Thursday night after his final home game that he would play “in some capacity” against the Red Sox this weekend. It’s most likely that comes later in the weekend, though.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said on “The Dan Patrick Show” that Jeter is unlikely to play Friday night at Fenway Park.

“I’d imagine today he’s pretty emotionally drained, so I don’t know what he’s going to do today,” Girardi said.

The manager was pressed further about if Jeter would have the night off Friday, and Girardi said “I think that might be what happens.”

“I even told him he could manage if he wanted,” Girardi joked, “but I don’t think he’s gonna do that.”

Ultimately, Girardi said, the decision is Jeter’s.

“That’s up to him,” Girardi said. “I’m going to ask him every day ‘What do you want? You can do anything you want.’ I told him yesterday when we were talking, ‘You can do anything you want. You can play every day. … Just tell me everyday what you wanna do.’ “
