Maryland HelmetsThe Maryland Terrapins will be rocking some very patriotic uniforms this Saturday when they take on West Virginia.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore and writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the Terps’ unis will feature cursive script representing Francis Scott Key’s poem “Defence of Fort McHenry,” which became America’s national anthem.

The helmets consist of a star-shaped flag logo symbolizing the outline of Fort McHenry. Red and blue stripes also appear on the helmets, as well as the shoulders, pant legs and socks.

Just as American military captains did during the Battle of Baltimore, Maryland captains will wear red belts. The names on the back of Maryland’s jerseys will be replaced by the word “TRIUMPH,” and the phrase “Conquer We Must” will be displayed on the team’s base layers.

Maryland will put its 2-0 record on the line against West Virginia after the Terps opened their season with wins over James Madison and South Florida.

Whether or not you are a Maryland fan, there’s no doubting the Terrapins will be America’s team this weekend.
