While the New York Mets wrapped up a doubleheader Thursday night at Citi Field, pitcher Matt Harvey was across town at another New York ballpark taking in a game.
Harvey, who has sat out the entire 2014 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, snagged a ticket to watch Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter’s last game in the Bronx and attended unapologetically.
“Tonight is about #RE2PECT!!” Harvey wrote. “Saying farewell and paying the man this game has been blessed to have! A childhood idol and it’s now an honor to call a friend!!! #derekjeter”
Harvey is from New London, Conn., about two and half hours outside New York, and being 25 years old, he grew up during the height of the Yankees’ World Series dominance.
Newsday’s Mark Carig tracked down Mets manager Terry Collins and general manager Sandy Alderson for a comment on the matter. They responded with “Not really,” and “No comment,” respectively.
