Mike Napoli Sits As Red Sox Look To Avoid Sweep Against Orioles

Mike Napoli, Yoenis CespedesThe Boston Red Sox will get a look at plenty of relatively unfamiliar faces on Wednesday.

The Sox will be looking to avoid a sweep at the hand of the Baltimore Orioles, and they will have to do so without first baseman Mike Napoli. The slugger is out of the lineup, as is Brock Holt, who continues to battle an illness. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia remains out with a wrist injury.

That opens the door for some younger players to get increased looks at the major league level. Carlos Rivera will start at third base for Boston on Wednesday, and Jemile Weeks is back in at second base. The injuries also mean Xander Bogaerts will move up in the lineup and will hit third.

The Orioles will give the ball to Wei-Yin Chen. That could be good news for Daniel Nava, who will play right field and hit sixth for the Sox. Nava owns a .538 (7-for-13) average in his career against Chen with a home run and three RBIs.

Brandon Workman will start for the Red Sox.
