Hardy is known for his on-field persona that he calls “The Kraken.” Part of the persona includes painting most of his face with eye black and donning black contact lenses to channel a mythical sea monster.

Panthers officials said they didn’t know what the fine would be for such a violation. A spokesperson from the league office said the rule isn’t new but couldn’t say what fine would accompany the violation.

Hardy led the Panthers in sacks last season with 15. He was given the franchise tag, guaranteeing him $13.1 million in 2014.
