Pablo Hernandez Scores Insane No-Look, Back-Heel Volley In Spain (Video)

It’s too early to crown Pablo Hernandez, but he might have scored European soccer’s best goal of the 2014-15 season Saturday.

Hernandez, a forward for Spanish club Celta Vigo, scored a mind-boggling, back-heel volley in his team’s 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid.

The game was goal-less in the 19th minute when Carles Planas floated a long pass toward Herndandez, who was standing near the penalty spot but marked by Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin. No problem.

With his back to goal, Hernandez flicked out his heel and and redirected the ball past goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya.

We’ll give Hernandez’s no-look goal perfect 10s for improvisation and execution. It was the Chilean’s first goal of the season. If he doesn’t score another one in 2014-15, he can live off of the glory of the back-heel volley he scored against one of European soccer’s stingiest defenses.

Here’s another fun fact: Hernandez spent six months on loan at DC United in 2010 but didn’t score a goal in the 14 games he played for the Major League Soccer club.
