Patriots Claim Don Jones Off Waivers From Dolphins, Waive Chris Barker

NFL: Miami Dolphins-Training CampThe New England PatriotsĀ are still sorting out their 53-man roster.

The Patriots claimed defensive back Don Jones off waivers from the Miami Dolphins and waived offensive guard Chris Barker on Monday. Jones was drafted by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft. He played all 16 games for the Dolphins last season as a special teamer.

The Patriots hadĀ a surplus of offensive linemen before cutting Barker. They now have six safeties on their 53-man roster after adding Jones. The Patriots similarly claimed Barker off waivers from the Dolphins on Sept. 1, 2013.

The Patriots play the Dolphins on Sunday in their 2014 regular season opener.

Jones was briefly suspended during the offseason after making controversial tweets about Michael Sam during the draft.
