NFL: Preseason-Carolina Panthers at New England PatriotsFOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots might be without one of their best running backs Sunday.

Third-down back Shane Vereen is questionable to play against the Oakland Raiders because of a shoulder injury. Linebacker Jamie Collins (thigh), cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (shoulder), defensive end Michael Buchanan (ankle), safety Don Jones (hamstring) and center Ryan Wendell (knee) also are questionable for Sunday’s game.

Guard Dan Connolly (knee), wide receiver Julian Edelman (back), tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee) and defensive tackle Sealver Siliga (hand) are probable.

If Vereen can’t play Sunday, Brandon Bolden and rookie James White would take his place on third downs. Collins, Dennard, Buchanan and Wendell didn’t suit up last week against the Minnesota Vikings. Logan Ryan took Dennard’s place at cornerback, and Deontae Skinner started for Collins.
