Marcus Smart won’t be the only rookie looking to make his mark in the Boston Celtics’ backcourt this season.

James Young, the Celtics’ other first-round draft pick (17th overall), also is set to begin his first NBA campaign. The 19-year-old showed flashes of brilliance in his one season at Kentucky, and he said this week that he’s eager to develop his game while playing alongside another former Wildcat.

“Playing with (Rajon) Rondo,” Young told Celtics.com’s Emily Austen when asked what he’s most looking forward to this season. “He’s a player I looked up to growing up, and he sees the floor very well and has a high IQ for the game. So, just getting open with him and seeing what happens.”

Young, who said he met Rondo for the first time earlier this week, believes the All-Star point guard’s court vision will help him maximize his offensive potential.

“By seeing me when I’m open at all times,” Young said. “He sees the floor very well, so I’ll just try to get open and he’ll deliver me the ball.”
