Ray Rice’s Suspension Honored By CFL; NFL Teams Reportedly Can’t Contact Him

Don’t expect to see Ray Rice on a playing field any time soon.

The running back was released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Monday after a disturbing video surfaced of him punching his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer, in the face during a February altercation.

In the aftermath of the new video’s public release, several entities associated with Rice began cutting ties with the running back.

Yet Rice’s punishment also will have a very tangible on-field consequence, as the Canadian Football League announced it will recognize his NFL suspension.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon reportedly considered playing in the CFL following his year-long suspension for substance abuse, but it wasn’t allowed.

Rice likely will be suspended by the NFL for a significant period of time, but if and when his ban is lifted, he might have a hard time finding work, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

If this report is true, Rice’s NFL future doesn’t look bright. There are likely few — if any — teams that would take a chance on the former Pro Bowl running back after such an incident.

Rice’s on-field performance also had been declining prior to this offseason, as he rushed for just 660 yards and four touchdowns in 2013, his lowest output since his rookie season.

At the moment, though, Rice’s stats should be the furthest thing from his mind.
