Dustin Pedroia, Xander BogaertsThe Boston Red Sox have returned to Fenway Park for their second-to-last homestand of 2014.

The Red Sox are battling the Blue Jays at the friendly confines Friday night, kick-starting a six-game homestand that begins with three games against Toronto and ends with three games against the Baltimore Orioles. Allen Webster is battling Drew Hutchison in the opener.

Webster has had an up-and-down stretch with the Red Sox. He enters Friday’s outing against the Jays with a 3-3 record and 6.69 ERA in seven starts with Boston, which hardly is impressive given the organization’s high expectations for the 24-year-old. Webster has flashed glimpses of his potential, though, and the hope is that he’ll continue to improve down the stretch while auditioning for a spot in the Red Sox’s 2015 rotation.

Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. NESN.com Red Sox beat writer Ricky Doyle will be tweeting about the action at Fenway, so give him a follow and keep tabs on the action below.
