Michael Sam found his way onto an NFL team — albeit on a practice squad.

The Dallas Cowboys signed Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team, to their practice squad Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport first reported.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett later confirmed Sam’s signing and said the rookie defensive end has a chance to push for a regular roster spot.

Sam was cut by the St. Louis Rams last weekend and cleared waivers, leaving him available for any NFL team to sign.

Sam had three sacks and 11 combined tackles for the Rams during the preseason.
