Report: Mariners To Release Scout Involved In Jesus Montero Ice Cream Fiasco

The Seattle Mariners scout who had an ice cream sandwich delivered to Jesus Montero during a minor league game is now looking for a new job.

CBS Sports reports that the Mariners plan to release Butch Baccala a month after he yelled at Montero to hustle off the field and then sent ice cream to the dugout for the 24-year-old catcher.

Montero then angrily approached the stands, shouting obscenities at Baccala before he was restrained by his teammates. He did manage to chuck the frozen treat at Baccala before the fracas ended.

Now, the scout is unemployed after his juvenile display and he’ll likely never buy anyone ice cream again.

Things aren’t sunshine and rainbows for Montero these days, as he was suspended 50 games for PEDs in 2013 and has battled weight issues, injuries and limited playing time in the majors since then.

Montero was also suspended for the rest of the season for his actions in the altercation with Baccala.
