Robert Griffin III’s poor luck continued Sunday, when the Washington Redskins quarterback suffered a potentially severe ankle injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Griffin scrambled to the right during a first-quarter play and fired a pass on the run. However, when Griffin came down, he fell awkwardly and twisted his ankle.

Griffin was down on the sideline for a long time as Washington’s medical staff attended to him. According to reports, Griffin’s ankle was placed in an air cast before he was carted off the field. He was ruled out shortly after leaving the game.

Griffin was replaced by backup Kirk Cousins, who threw for a touchdown on his first pass of the game and orchestrated another TD drive later in the first half. Cousins led the Redskins to a 41-10 win over the Jaguars.

If Griffin is lost for an extended period of time, it wouldn’t be the first time he has suffered a serious injury. The former Baylor quarterback tore two ligaments in his knee late in the 2012 season.
