Satchel Paige was the oldest rookie to play in Major League Baseball at the age of 42, but he’d already made a name for himself playing for the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Leagues.

Paige was among the most famous and successful players from the Negro Leagues and signed briefly with the Kansas City Athletics in the latter part of his career. While with the Athletics on a one-day contract, he set a record against the Boston Red Sox. NESN Nation’s Alison Smith has more in the video above.
