Sidney CrosbySidney Crosby wasn’t arrested Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, and the news agency that reported otherwise has acknowledged that fact.

Canadian news agency QMI reported early Wednesday morning that the Pittsburgh Penguins star was arrested in Ottawa. That was quickly shot down by other reports, and the Ottawa police denied the reported news.

Not long after that, QMI announced it was retracting the story.

“Earlier today, QMI Agency reported that Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby was arrested by Ottawa Police late Tuesday on driving-related charges,” a statement read on the websites of QMI newspapers like the Toronto Sun and Ottawa Sun. “There was no basis for the story and QMI unreservedly retracts the story in its entirety.

“QMI regrets the error.”

Not only was Crosby not arrested, he wasn’t even in Canada. The Penguins released a statement with that distinction, and TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that Crosby is in Colorado, where he’s getting ready for the team’s upcoming training camp.
