Steve Smith went to work on Sunday wearing a hat that said “I (Love) Haters,” and he backed up that bravado.
The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver the got chance to take on his former team, the Carolina Panthers, for the first time, and he made his impact felt. Of course, he got some help, too.
Smith got the scoring started in the second quarter after he was in the right place at the right time. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was looking for tight end Owen Daniels along the sideline. The two couldn’t hook up, but Daniels did get a hand on the ball and ended up deflecting the ball into the air, right where Smith was running his route. Smith yanked the ball out of the air and flew down the field for a 61-yard touchdown.
The 35-year-old didn’t stop there, hauling in another touchdown pass in the second quarter and finishing the day with seven receptions for 139 yards. The Ravens won 38-10.
