UMass Pulls Out Fake Punt, Takes Early Lead Over Vanderbilt (GIF)

What in the world has happened to Vanderbilt football?

Just one season after posting a respectable 8-4 record and earning a bowl bid, the Commodores suddenly look like one of the worst teams in the country.

Vandy began the 2014 campaign by getting thoroughly demolished by Ole Miss and Temple — Temple! — and UMass invaded Nashville on Saturday looking to continue that trend.

The Minutemen have gone a combined 2-22 over the past two seasons, but they jumped out to a 14-0 lead early thanks to a nifty fake punt. Punter Brian McDonald connected on a pass to Rodney Mills, who scampered 53 yards for a touchdown.

UMass, which earned a promotion from the Football Championship Subdivision in 2012, was blown out by Boston College in its season opener but showed promise last week, taking Colorado down to the wire before losing 41-38.
