Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Boston Red SoxBOSTON — There’s clearly something going around the Red Sox’s clubhouse.

Will Middlebrooks left Tuesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park before the start of the sixth inning due to illness, according to the Red Sox. Middlebrooks, who was replaced by Carlos Rivero at third base, is the third Boston player to battle illness in recent days.

Mike Napoli left Saturday’s game after two innings and missed Sunday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays due to illness. Brock Holt has missed Boston’s last four games, including Tuesday’s contest against the O’s, while battling both illness and neck stiffness.

Middlebrooks went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a lineout to right field before exiting Tuesday’s game. Rivero collected his first major league hit — a single into right field — in the seventh inning.
