When ball boys or girls make the news, it’s usually for bad reasons. The New York Yankees’ ball boy, however, pulled off a genius move Thursday night.
With Derek Jeter making his final appearance at Yankee Stadium, everyone in the ballpark wanted some sort of souvenir to commemorate the occasion. That included the ball boy down the third-base line.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jeter lined a shot down the third-base line. The ball went foul, and the ball boy made a nice play to scoop it up. That’s when the real brilliance came into play. The young opportunist reached into his back pocket and pulled out another baseball. He gave the impostor ball to a “lucky” fan, keeping the Jeter ball to himself.
