Yankees Fans Blame Carlos Beltran For Season In Strange Poll (Photo)

There are many reasons why the New York Yankees are all but counted out of postseason contention for the second straight year.

There are the injuries that have left them without a viable starting rotation. There’s the fact that their shallow farm system can’t make up for those injuries. There’s the fact that they refuse to believe that at 40 years old, shortstop Derek Jeter might not be the best top-of-the-order presence.

But Yankees fans picked a scapegoat for the lackluster season, and that scapegoat is…Carlos Beltran?

In a very strange poll from The Trenton Times, fans named the 37-year-old outfielder as the reason for the team’s lack of success. Now, the question did not make sense to ask in the first place, but the results are still pretty confusing.

Sure, Beltran hasn’t had a great season, but is it really his fault that the Yankees picked up a guy on the tail end of his career and expected huge results? And who on earth would blame Ichiro Suzuki for anything?

But in all likelihood, Yankees fans just don’t remember how to handle missing the playoffs for consecutive seasons, as they only failed to make the postseason once from 1995 to 2012.

Boston Red Sox fans, however, know that there’s rarely one person to blame for that, unless of course that person’s name is Bobby Valentine.
