The Boston Bruins made a major move just days before they began their season opener.

The B’s traded veteran defenseman Johnny Boychuk to the New York Islanders on Saturday in exchange for multiple draft picks. The move gives Boston more salary cap flexibility, but Boychuk was a team and fan favorite who certainly will be missed.

After the Bruins’ preseason finale against the Detroit Red Wings, NESN’s Andy Brickley offered his thoughts on the deal.

“The reaction from a fan’s perspective is, ‘Wow, this team got weakened because you took away one of your top defensemen,’ … And that’s accurate,” Brickley said.
