The Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge will be bigger and better in its second year with even more teams participating in the event and more games on the schedule in 2014-15.
The second edition of the challenge will feature 14 different schools — nine Hockey East institutions and five Big Ten schools — in 20 games that will be played between Oct. 10 and Nov. 29. Ten of the matchups will be played in Hockey East arenas and 10 will be played in Big Ten venues.
“As we move into the second year of the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, the event continues to offer student-athletes a great opportunity to play in high-level games against top competition,” Big Ten Associate Commissioner Jennifer Heppel said, via NCAA.com. “The event reinforces our excellent relationship with Hockey East and helps promote the game of college hockey across the nation.
“We enjoy a great relationship with the Big Ten and its institutions and we hope to grow those relationships through increased competition between our member schools,” said Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna. “We increased the number of games in the “Challenge” this year and hope we can continue to interact as conferences.”
Teams will earn two points for a win, one point for a tie and a bonus point will be awarded for a road win. A Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge Cup will be presented to the conference with the most points from the 20 contests.
Of the 14 schools participating in this year’s Challenge, six took part in last season’s NCAA Championship.
