It never happened during his tenure as the Detroit Lions head coach, but Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was carried off Ford Field following his team’s last-minute comeback win Sunday afternoon.
The Bills came back from a 14-point deficit — thanks in large part to Lions kicker Alex Henery going 0-for-3 on field goals — to defeat Detroit 17-14 in Kyle Orton’s first start at quarterback. Dan Carpenter nailed a 58-yard field goal to seal Buffalo’s victory, but it was Schwartz who received the royal treatment after the game.

Schwartz, who amassed a 29-51 record during his five years at the helm, was fired by Lions in January. Prior to Sunday’s game against his old team, Schwartz talked about what type of reaction he expected to get from the fans in his return to Detroit.
“It doesn’t matter,” he said, via the Buffalo News. “It’s about the game. That’s certainly not important.”
What was important, though, apparently was Schwartz getting carried off the field. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Schwartz requested the celebration way back during OTAs.

With the win, the Bills are now 3-2 on the season.
