Buffalo Bills cornerback Ron Brooks was carted off the field during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions after suffering a neck injury.

Brooks, who was running downfield to cover a Bills punt, landed directly on his head after being upended by Lions safety Jerome Couplin. Medical personnel came on to the field and tended to Brooks for about 10 minutes as players from both teams looked on with concern.

After being loaded onto the stretcher, Brooks gave a promising sign, waving to the crowd as he was being taken off the field. The team has since announced that Brooks has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The 25-year-old has started all four games for Buffalo this season, recording six tackles on the year.

Couplin, who was also injured on the play, walked off the field under his own power.
