C.J. SpillerTurns out C.J. Spiller’s season isn’t done just yet.

The Buffalo Bills running back suffered a devastating injury Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, breaking his collarbone at the end of a 53-yard run.

Early indications were that Spiller would miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing surgery Monday. On Tuesday, though, the Bills placed the 27-year-old on the reserve injured/designated to return list, making him eligible to practice with the team as early as Week 14 and return to game action by Week 16.

Spiller will miss at least eight games, but a chance of his return is a silver lining for a team that also could be without running back Fred Jackson for four weeks after he suffered a groin injury in the same game.

The Bills currently sit in second place in the AFC East at 4-3 and are hoping to find themselves in the playoff hunt down the stretch. Spiller’s return could be crucial to that goal, as Buffalo ends its regular season at Gillette Stadium against the New England Patriots, who lead the division with a 5-2 record.

The Bills will rely on running backs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown to shoulder the load with Spiller and Jackson absent. The team also signed former Dallas Cowboys running back Phillip Tanner on Tuesday.
