Carlo Ancelotti won’t soon forget the first time he took Real Madrid to Liverpool for a game at Anfield.

Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s head coach, posed for a photo next to the iconic “This Is Anfield” sign at Liverpool’s venerable stadium. The Italian tactician used Twitter to share the photo with the world Tuesday.

Liverpool’s “This is Anfield” sign hangs above the tunnel that takes the teams onto the field. The sign hung in its place from 1974 to 1998, when it was replaced by a newer version.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers restored the original sign to its rightful place when he assumed the job in June 2012.

Liverpool hosts Real Madrid on Wednesday in a UEFA Champions League Group B game. The marquee matchup pits Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, the defending European champion, against a young Liverpool team, which is keen to make its mark this season in Europe.
