Vitor Faverani continues to have issues with his surgically repaired left knee.
The Boston Celtics center traveled to Spain this week to get a second opinion on the injured knee, head coach Brad Stevens told reporters before Friday night’s preseason meeting with the New York Knicks.
“If that second opinion comes back that he needs extra work, then he would potentially have a cleanup type of surgery again on his knee on Monday,” Stevens said, via MassLive.com. “ But that is not determined until that second opinion happens.”
Faverani has been inactive for the Celtics’ first four preseason games after missing the latest and has undergone two MRIs in an effort to determine the source of his symptoms, which include soreness and swelling.
“It was that it’s still undetermined from what I understand,” Stevens said. “Part of my world is I check on them, how they’re doing emotionally. And I also ask, ‘Are they available? And if not, when?’ I’m not going to stand up here and act like I know exactly what the doctor’s reports say and the MRIs say. From what I can tell, the MRIs have not shown a ton of change. But there still continues to be swelling and pain. They’re just trying to exhaust their opinions on it.”
Faverani played seven season for various Spanish teams before signing with the Celtics ahead of last season.
