With only one win needed to secure bowl eligibility this season, the Boston College Eagles travel to Virginia Tech as 3.5-point betting underdogs in their Week 10 matchup Saturday with the ACC rival Hokies.
The 5-2 Eagles improved to 2-2 in conference play last weekend with a 23-17 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, but failed to cover as 13.5-point favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Eagles held Wake Forest to just 31 total yards in the first half, while jumping out to a fast 17-0 lead, but were just 2 for 9 in third-down efficiency and allowed the Demon Deacons back into the game in the second half with 244 total yards and 17 points.
The against-the-spread loss was the first in three games for BC after covering as underdogs against North Carolina State and Clemson, making the Eagles’ ATS record as dogs 3-1 on the season.
BC takes on a Hokies squad that has struggled in its last two outings, losing straight up and ATS in meetings with Pittsburgh and Miami. The losses drop Virginia Tech to 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS on the season heading into Saturday’s Eagles vs. Hokies betting matchup at Lane Stadium.
The Hokies have gotten the better of the Eagles in their recent clashes on home turf, 4-1 SU in their last five, but Boston College has been the stronger bet in head-to-head meetings, going 6-3 ATS in its last nine trips to Blacksburg.
In other Week 10 college football action, a battle of ACC Coastal rivals pits the Miami Hurricanes against the red-hot North Carolina Tar Heels as strong 15-point home favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Tar Heels have come to life with two strong SU wins over Georgia Tech and Virginia that halted a four-game losing skid, 3-1 ATS. The 5-3 Canes also are riding a two-game SU and ATS win streak, and are 4-0 SU at home this season, 3-1 ATS, but are just 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five home dates against UNC.
Meanwhile, the 6-1 Duke Blue Devils will look to improve their conference record to 3-1 when they visit the struggling 4-4 Pittsburgh Panthers as 3.5-point road underdogs, while 3-5 Syracuse welcomes 4-4 NC State to the Carrier Dome on Saturday as a 3.5-point home favorite.
