With MGM Resorts International building a $350 million sports arena on the Las Vegas Strip, the question has become whether Sin City will be a viable option for NHL expansion.
Las Vegas seems like a fantastic destination for the NHL because it would be the first professional sports league in the city, but Dale Arnold and Paul Kelly of “The Instigators” weren’t sold on the idea.
“You don’t go to Vegas because you’re thinking, ‘Oh, I’m here for four days anyway, a long weekend, let’s catch the hockey game,’ ” Arnold said. “I just think it’s a dumb idea.”
Kelly echoed those sentiments.
“You don’t really have a fan base,” Kelly said. “I don’t know where you’re going to sell your season tickets.”
Arnold and Kelly believe Seattle and Quebec City would be more ideal for NHL expansion.
