The Boston Red Sox’s World Series defense didn’t go quite as planned.

But while there were more lowlights than highlights in the Red Sox’s disappointing 2014 season, there still were some memorable moments. The future certainly looks bright despite the club’s last-place finish.

David Ortiz shined this season, belting 35 homers and driving in 104 runs. It was his eighth season with 30 or more homers and 100 or more RBIs, moving him ahead of Ted Williams for the most such seasons in Red Sox history. Several clutch hits again were part of Ortiz’s game.

Brock Holt and a cast of young players also broke through in 2014. Holt’s versatility, hustle and production proved to be a bright spot amid the Red Sox’s struggles.

And who could forget the Opening Day ring ceremony or the 10th anniversary celebration of the Red Sox’s 2004 World Series-winning team?
