NFL: New York Giants at Washington RedskinsChalking up an “L” in the loss column is never fun for an NFL player, but there are some defeats that are tougher to swallow than others.

Every guy in the league has that one loss that sticks with them, and former NFL-ers Chris Snee, Derek Rackley and Matt Chatham all dug down deep to write about the worst ones of their careers in the latest post for the website, FootballByFootball.com. It’s been years since the brutal beatdowns occurred, but the ex-players make it clear in their posts that it still stings just as much today as it did on the day it happened.

Snee recalled a Dec. 27, 2009, game against the Carolina Panthers that knocked his Giants out of the playoffs one year after they had finished with the best record in the NFC, and two years after they had won the Super Bowl. To add insult to injury, the 41-9 thrashing was also the final game played at Giants Stadium, with MetLife Stadium slated to open in 2010.

“I was overcome with the thought of disappointing the Giants organization, fans and history of Giants Stadium,” Snee wrote. “Undoubtedly, that loss was my lowest moment in a Giants uniform.”

Rackley provided much more optimism to his memory of a 2004 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, as his Atlanta Falcons bounced back from the shellacking to win the NFC South, while Chatham proved he’ll always have mixed feelings about playing in Jacksonville.
