Gregg Popovich Among Spurs Skipping Thursday’s Preseason Game In Phoenix

There will be one more San Antonio Spur skipping Thursday night’s preseason game in Phoenix — head coach Gregg Popovich.

Popovich, who is a big supporter of resting his star players during the regular season to ensure they’re ready for the grueling postseason, appears to be taking his own advice and sitting a game out before the regular season gets underway.

The head coach joins five players on the team’s injury report who won’t be making the trip. Kawhi Leonard is recovering from an eye infection, Patty Mills and Tiago Splitter are both injured, while Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili will be getting the night off after playing heavy minutes when the team played overseas last week.

Or maybe Pop just really didn’t want to miss Game 4 of the NLCS between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals tonight.
