James WhiteFOXBORO, Mass. — One of Bill Belichick’s favorite phrases is “practice execution becomes game reality.” The New England Patriots might be hoping that quote rings true for rookie running back James White.

White was among the Patriots’ practice players of the week as they prepared for Sunday’s road win over the Buffalo Bills. Cornerback Malcolm Butler, linebacker Darius Fleming and defensive end Jake Bequette also won the award for last week’s practices.

White could have a bigger role after starting running back Stevan Ridley suffered a severe knee injury against the Bills. White only has suited up for one game, when he ran the ball three times for 21 yards and caught one pass for a 3-yard gain in a Sept. 29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fleming could be promoted from the practice squad after Mayo also suffered a severe knee injury, which is expected to land him on season-ending injured reserve.
