Joe Panik swung momentum the San Francisco Giants’ way Wednesday night.
The Giants defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in Game 7 to win their third World Series title in five seasons. Panik helped San Francisco’s cause by starting a sick double play in the third inning.
Eric Hosmer hit a ground ball up the middle with no outs and a runner on first base for the Royals. Panik dived to his right and delivered a backhanded flip out of his glove to Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, who successfully turned the double play.
Hosmer, who dived head-first into first, initially was called safe. Replays showed Crawford’s throw beat Hosmer, though, and the ruling was overturned.
The Giants broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning when Michael Morse singled home a run.
