There have been some pretty big professional sporting events recently, but none of them can compare to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ season opener against the New York Knicks.
It’s hard to find anyone who would endorse that statement, but that’s apparently what LeBron James thought Thursday night.
“For me, I know all of us shouldn’t take this moment for granted,” James said before the Cavs’ opener, via ESPN. “This is probably one of the biggest sporting events that is up there ever.”
We get that LeBron is excited for his triumphant return to Ohio, but he probably should tone it down a bit, as the first game of the NBA season doesn’t exactly carry a lot of weight in the grand scheme of things.
Absurd claims aside, it should be an exciting season by the banks of the Cuyahoga River. James’ return home, along with newly acquired forward Kevin Love and a giant video board with flaming sabers, has Cavaliers fans eyeing a playoff run for the first time in half a decade.
“It is not the beginning,” James added. “It is the third (chapter) for myself. It is far from the beginning.”
Despite his excitement, LeBron’s third chapter didn’t exactly get off to a stellar start. After an underwhelming chalk toss, James mustered just four points while committing four turnovers in the first half.
